Sheds

Whether you are a keen gardener or just want somewhere to store the lawnmower, a shed is a very useful thing to have.

Plastic storage areas and sheds are becoming popular, because they are very easy to assemble, robust and very low-maintenance. Storage areas can simply be placed on a patio, and sheds often come with easy to build foundation kits. A range of colours, sizes and styles are available.

Wooden sheds are more traditional, and can be painted to blend in with the surroundings. Again, a large selection of sizes is available, from small patio storage areas to large, luxurious structures. Single-door, double-door, corner, side-door – whatever your needs, there will be a shed to suit them.

Metal sheds offer a very secure alternative, keeping intruders and pests of all types out. Metal is also resistant to all weather extremes, although it will still get hot inside during the summer. A variety of sizes, styles and colours are available – even ones that are made to look like wood, so you don’t have to worry that it won’t fit in.

Greenhouses

There are a huge range of different sizes and types of greenhouse out there. Before you choose one, you need to consider where it’s going to be located, and what you’re going to use it for. Try to pick a sheltered area that still gets plenty of sun.

Mini-greenhouses are perfect if you have a small garden, but want to start off flowers or vegetables early. Cheap, metal or plastic tubular with a soft plastic cover are the most common, but more rigid structures are also available.

Lean-to greenhouses are suitable if you want to save space by building against a garage or house wall. Both metal and wooden-framed lean-to greenhouses are available, and a wide selection of sizes.

Free-standing greenhouses are the most effective, and come in a huge range of sizes. Try to make sure you get one with a good roof height, as it will allow air to circulate better. Timber and metal frames are available – a wooden frame looks nicer, but bear in mind that it will need more maintenance. For a really attractive look, there are some beautiful hexagonal glass-houses that would look great in any garden.
