Whatever state your lawn is in, it can be improved by a programme of regular maintenance and feeding. Even if there are more weeds than grass, an acceptable everyday lawn can be achieved in this way.
If you are more of a perfectionist, you may wish to consider clearing the ground and starting afresh. Anew lawn from seed or turf will be of much better quality than one renovated from a very poor state – see our section on New Lawns for more information on this.
